During the emergency that arose after the attempted assassination of ex-President Trump, one video emerged. It shows a few female Secret Service (SS, an agency that protects US presidents and candidates) agents securing the emergency exit of Trump.
In light of the apparent failure of SS, many ridiculed the women, claiming they looked out of place, were clumsy, unfit for the job, too small for the job, etc. Some influential commentators claimed that more deserving men were passed over to give these women the job for diversity hiring.
If everyone keeps their bias aside, tries to understand that they are not used to seeing women in such roles, and objectively finds out where the failure was, they will realise those women are just doing their job. They are not the failure point. In fact, one of the first agents to shield Trump with their body was a woman.
We have internalised biases to such an extent, that just some visuals from a chaotic situation make us judgmental.
Society should do better. It is 2024.
