In Bathinda’s Longowal town, women have taken matters into their own hands to combat the rising drug menace after accusing local police of inaction.
Frustrated by the rampant sale of synthetic and habit-forming drugs in their community, particularly near the Longowal grain market, the women protested on Friday by blocking a road, demanding urgent intervention.
They allege that despite informing the police about the illegal trade, no steps were taken, resulting in the deaths of four young people due to drug abuse in just over a month. While the Sunam police dismissed the claims as “misleading,” the women have vowed to personally guard the area and monitor the police response.
After the police promised action, the women decided to step back and watch if the authorities would finally crack down on the deadly drug trade.
