Sudan’s Conflict Pushes Women to Horrific Extremes
In Sudan’s brutal conflict between the Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), women are enduring unimaginable trauma. To avoid repeated assault, some women have tragically resorted to suicide with over 130 cases reported. The UN accuses RSF forces of widespread sexual violence against women and children, though RSF denies these charges, leaving millions displaced and vulnerable.
Hala al-Karib of the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa described cases of women who, after enduring rape and witnessing the murder of male family members, felt they had no choice but to end their lives. The conflict exposes the horrific toll war takes on women, as survival becomes an unbearable ordeal.
