What Is The Connection?
In 1999, a young influential man attended a party in Delhi with his friends. Jessica Lal, a model, was attending the bar. As it was past closing time, she refused to serve alcohol, and the man pulled out a gun and shot her in the face.
His friends destroyed evidence. When caught they breached parole rules and got into more trouble. On bail, one accused Vikas Yadav brutally killed another person (Infamous Nitish Katara case). It was a naked dance of power and money. Later with scores of witnesses turning hostile, the man was acquitted.
That’s when public outcry shook the nation and govt were forced to retry, finding the accused guilty and sent to life.
After moving to open prison in 2017, the accused Manu Sharma was released in 2020 due to good conduct. He is now a successful liquor manufacturer and goes by the name Siddharth Sharma.
Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lal who fought for justice for Jessica passed away in 2021 due to an illness.
