Not the news we wanted to post on International Women’s Day, but here it is.
In a tragic incident in Karnataka, a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a homestay owner were allegedly gang-raped by three men on Thursday night. The attack happened near a canal in Koppal, around 350 km from Bengaluru, where the women were stargazing with three male travelers.
The attackers first pushed the three men into the canal before assaulting the women. Two men, Daniel from the U.S. and Pankaj from Maharashtra, managed to swim out, but Bibash from Odisha drowned. His body was recovered on Saturday morning.
According to the police, the accused arrived on a bike, initially asking for petrol and later demanding ₹100 from the group. When refused, they attacked the men, threw them into the canal, and sexually assaulted the women before fleeing.
The victims are receiving medical care at a government hospital. Authorities have filed a case for gang-rape and robbery, and two special police teams are investigating. Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi assured swift action, stating that the suspects are being identified.
Fire officials and police teams were deployed to find the missing tourist, whose body was discovered the next day.
