Meenu Rani lost ₹51.50 lakh to fraudster Hari Singh in a fake trading scheme. Cyber police are investigating.
Meenu Rani, a Greater Noida resident, was ensnared in a stock market scam that cost her ₹51.50 lakh. The mastermind, Hari Singh, claimed 15 years of trading expertise and drew her in through a WhatsApp group focused on stock investments. Rani began with ₹50,000, enticed by fake profits displayed on a dubious app, which convinced her the scheme was legitimate. She then invested an additional ₹51 lakh, money borrowed from her husband, mother-in-law, and relatives, believing she was on the path to financial gain.
The scam unraveled when Rani approached a bank for a loan and was warned about possible fraud. Alarmed, she confronted Singh and demanded her money back, only to find that he and his associates had vanished, cutting off all communication. The fabricated profits and promises of wealth were nothing but a ruse, leaving her financially devastated after trusting the app’s deceptive interface.
On March 2, 2025, Rani lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police station in Noida, providing details of the fraud. Authorities have initiated a probe to identify and apprehend the scammers while attempting to trace the lost funds. The incident underscores the rising danger of online investment frauds targeting unsuspecting individuals.
