In a horrifying incident caught on CCTV, a man is seen casually using a lighter to set a woman’s skirt on fire as she stands outside a shop, talking on the phone. The woman appears unaware initially, but seconds later, she notices the flames and frantically tries to put them out with her hands.
What’s even more disturbing is that the man doesn’t flee or help — he simply sits and watches her struggle. This isn’t carelessness. It’s cruelty.
There have been many cases of men lighting skirts on fire as prank. Perhaps the most noteworthy such incident killed a 24-year-old Gareth MacFadyen, who died after his colleague Matthew Schofield set alight his fancy dress straw skirt at a Merrill Lynch end-of-year party in 2001.
