Husband Finds Out He Has Cancer, Decides Wife Must Die With Him

In a throw back to an era bygone, where many believed a wife had no life beyond the husband’s, a man in Ghaziabad killed his wife because he was diagnosed with cancer. That his wife in her early 40s may want to live her life beyond his life was a thought so alien to him, he chose murder.

Kuldip Tyagi, a 47-year-old real estate dealer, shot his wife, Anshu Tyagi, with a licensed revolver before turning the gun on himself at their home in Raj Nagar Extension on April 15, 2025. A suicide note revealed his motive: diagnosed with cancer, he refused treatment to avoid “wasting money” and decided to take his wife with him, citing their vow to “stay together forever.” The note reflects a deeply ingrained mindset—where love is equated with control and a woman’s autonomy is erased.

The couple’s two sons, at home during the 11 am incident, found their parents after hearing gunshots—Kuldip on the floor, Anshu on the bed. Both were declared dead at a nearby hospital. The note, found by police, absolved their children of any blame.

Senior officer Poonam Mishra confirmed the details, adding that the police seized the revolver and are investigating. The couple is survived by their sons and Kuldip’s father, a retired cop.
