On April 14, 2025, Kajal Chavan, a 33-year-old one-month pregnant woman from Palghar’s Adarsh Nagar, heroically stopped a robbery at her home. Around 6:30 PM, two thieves broke in, targeting gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 10 lakh. Alone, Chavan confronted them, using a wrestling move, ‘dhobi pachad,’ to slam one thief to the ground. “She lifted him and threw him from behind,” said her mother-in-law, Neeta Chavan. Her shouts alerted neighbors, who caught one suspect, while the other escaped.
Palghar police arrested the apprehended thief, filing an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for housebreaking, theft, and robbery. The incident, reported on April 16, 2025, went viral on X, with over 5,000 users praising Chavan’s courage and urging better local security. Palghar reported 182 accidents and rising thefts in 2024, per police data. The police are hunting the second suspect, amid calls for improved patrolling.
