Bengaluru police have registered an FIR against an Instagram account named @metro_chicks for allegedly posting non-consensual videos of women commuting on the city’s Namma Metro. The account, which had over 5,000 followers, featured 13 videos with captions like “finding beautiful girls on Namma Metro,” showing women being secretly filmed without their knowledge, with a link to a Telegram page for such images.
The issue came to light when a user on X alerted authorities, prompting swift action from the Banashankari police. The case has been filed under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act and Section 78(2) of the BNS, addressing the publication of obscene material and stalking, respectively.
While it is generally legal to videograph in public places, doing so for voyeurism, malicious purposes, outraging modesty, commercial use or in a manner detrimental to safety of metro passengers are ALL potential crimes and you can approach authorities.
