Professor G. Madhavi Latha: The Expert Behind Chenab Rail Bridge
Dr. G. Madhavi Latha, a geotechnical engineering professor at IISc Bengaluru, played a pivotal role in the Chenab Rail Bridge project for 17 years (2005–2022). Holding a BTech from JNTU, MTech from NIT Warangal, and PhD from IIT Madras, she provided expertise in rock engineering and geosynthetics. Her contributions included slope stability analysis, foundation design, and slope stabilization systems, ensuring the bridge’s safety on challenging Himalayan terrain. As a consultant for Northern Railways, her innovative “design-as-you-go” approach addressed complex geotechnical challenges, making the world’s highest railway bridge a reality.
P. S. Thousands of workers, engineers & other professionals worked on the world’s tallest rail bridge, Chenab Bridge. We acknowledge everyone’s contribution & sacrifice.
