Sirisha, a 25-year-old woman from Narayanapuram village, Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, was abandoned by her husband, Thimmarayappa, who left her to repay a Rs 80,000 loan he borrowed from moneylender Munikannappa about two years ago.
Struggling as a daily wage laborer to support her children, Sirisha returned to the village from Bengaluru on June 16, 2025, to collect her son’s school transfer certificate. That day, Munikannappa and his family confronted her, demanding repayment. When she couldn’t pay, they verbally abused her, tied her to a neem tree, and beat her in front of her five-year-old son. A viral video of the assault sparked outrage. Kuppam Urban Police rescued her, arresting five to six suspects under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for assault. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu condemned the act, ensuring strict action and support for Sirisha’s family. The investigation continues.
