Why you need state sponsored women’s homes for abused women? We are often asked this question. The implication is it is special treatment. Reality is this..
Panipat Haryana – A 35-year-old woman lost her 3 year old child a month ago. Unable to cope with the trauma, instead of understanding, her husband allegedly beat her for refusing sex. To escape abuse, she fled with just a few belongings, not knowing where to go.
At Panipat railway station, a man approached her insisting she could spend the night safely with his wife. He lured her into an empty, parked train coach. There, he raped her—and then three other men joined in. The four allegedly gang-raped her through the night. Later, she was thrown off the train near Sonipat, stepped into a pool of chemical residue near the rails where a passing train severed her feet.
She is now admitted at PGIMS Rohtak and recovering. A zero-FIR was registered on July 6. Police have formed a Special Investigation Team, but no arrests have been made yet.
This is why we need women’s homes..
