A shocking incident occurred in Moradabad’s Deputy Ganj area when CCTV footage captured a burqa-clad woman being molested by a man. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, stirred anger and demands for swift justice across the city.
The accused, identified as Adil, a 22-year-old compounder from Umri village, allegedly carried out the act before fleeing the scene. Reports indicate that Adil had planned further mischief while evading authorities. The incident not only brought to light the vulnerabilities women face in public spaces but also highlighted the community’s resolve to demand accountability.
Police Action: Swift Chase and Arrest
Moradabad police sprang into action immediately after the crime was reported. Following a rapid investigation and intensive search, they tracked down Adil within 12 to 14 hours of the FIR being filed. The chase unfolded dramatically at Ramganga Ghat behind Nat Baba Mutt area in Jigar Colony, where police tried to stop Adil during routine night checks.
Instead of surrendering, Adil attempted to escape on a motorbike but lost control near the riverbank. Cornered and desperate, he opened fire at the officers. The police responded, and in the brief exchange, Adil was shot in the leg and subdued. Along with his capture, police recovered a country-made pistol, live cartridges, and a bike without a number plate from his possession.
After his arrest, Adil was taken to the district hospital for treatment. In a widely circulated hospital video, he was seen pleading for forgiveness and promising never to repeat such acts, underscoring the gravity of his actions.
