Lucknow Woman Found Dead After Months of Dowry Harassment
Madhu Singh, 32 (reported 26 in some sources) , married a Merchant Navy officer, Anurag Singh,31, just five months ago. Her family says that right from the start, Anurag demanded ₹15 lakh dowry—even though Madhu’s family could only give ₹5 lakh. The pressure didn’t stop; after the wedding, Madhu faced constant harassment and violence at home.
She was cut off from friends, her phone was checked, and she was assaulted over minor things—even for not keeping a bottle in the “right place”. Family chats and audio clips reveal Madhu was scared and repeatedly beaten.
Madhu’s father also alleges Anurag had an affair and forced Madhu to end a pregnancy. Just days before Madhu was found hanging in her Lucknow home, her family says she complained about another assault.
Police have arrested Anurag Singh and are investigating the case.
