In a tragic incident at a petrol pump in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, 27-year-old Bharati Toppo was fatally stabbed by her former boyfriend, 28-year-old Jogendra Paikra, on October 2, 2025. Paikra arrived on a motorcycle without a number plate, armed with a knife and an air pistol. Toppo attempted to flee, but Paikra chased her for about 10 meters and s*abbed her in the stomach, leading to her collapse. Despite being rushed to Mission Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Paikra was subdued by petrol pump staff and residents after brandishing the air pistol to evade capture. Police arrested him at the scene, seizing the weapons and motorcycle. The motive appears linked to a recent breakup, with CCTV footage aiding the ongoing investigation.
