The president of Rashtriya Hindu Shakti Sangathan, Mr. Raghvendra Bhatnagar, stormed Miss Rishikesh pageant rehearsal. He slammed the women’s outfits as “Western” and “against Uttarakhand’s culture,” threatening to cancel the event. A participant, Muskan Sharma, fiercely retorted, “You cannot break someone’s passion. What culture are you talking about?” She demanded action against nearby alcohol and drug shops instead. The second runner-up echoed, “Clothes don’t define a woman’s honour.” Their defiance, forced Bhatnagar to leave.
Muskan crowned Miss Rishikesh, though her win was based on her performance, not the clash. Organizer Susheel Chhabra confirmed the Lions Club Diwali Mela event faced no prior objections. State Women’s Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal praised their potential to inspire globally. No police action was reported.
