Lucknow City railway station made history, as North India’s first all-women staffed station. A 34-member team of women, aged 28 to 57, now runs all operations, from ticketing to security, signaling, and cleanliness, showcasing ‘Nari Shakti-Rastra Shakti.’
Station Superintendent Varsha Srivastava, 50, a Lucknow native, leads as a second-generation railway worker. RPF in-charge Sushma, 33, from Delhi, commands eight women officers, while Chief Ticket Inspector Rama Srivastava, 50, from Guwahati, manages ticketing. Chief Reservation Supervisor Vijay Laxmi Pandey, 57, from Gorakhpur, handles bookings, and Simple Shyam, 28, serves as senior commercial clerk. Drawn from across India, this diverse team runs the station, operational since 1886, servicing 14 pairs of express trains daily.
“It’s an honor and a huge responsibility to lead an all-woman team,” Varsha Srivastava said. Divisional Railway Manager Gaurav Agarwal added, “This team reflects women’s unity and strength. It embodies ‘Nari Shakti-Rastra Shakti.’”
