A 28-year-old woman doctor at a government hospital in Phaltan, Satara district, Maharashtra, died by suicide on October 23, 2025. The doctor was found hanging in a hotel room late that night after checking in following a late duty, as her rented accommodation was far from the hospital.
She left a note on her palm ,stating sub-inspector Gopal Badane raping her 4 times over five months. It also named software engineer Prashant Bankar, her landlord’s son, for mental harassment.
The note, recovered from the scene, detailed the repeated assaults by Badane during her hospital duties, including pressure to alter medical reports. She had submitted a written complaint to the deputy superintendent of police in June, alleging harassment, but claimed no action was taken.
Phaltan police registered an FIR under BNS sections 64 (rape) and 108 (abetment of suicide) against Badane and Bankar. Badane is absconding and Bankar was arrested in Satara.
