Bengaluru Lecturer Ends Life Over Dowry Harassment, Blames Husband in Video

V Pushpavati, a 25-year-old lecturer, ended her life by jumping into a dam near Doddaballapur. She recorded a video before dying, blaming dowry harassment and abuse by her husband and in-laws .

The deceased was married 11 months ago to G Venu, she worked at a private college in Rajanakunte. One day, when she went missing, her family filed a missing complaint, and the next day, her body was found .

In a video, Pushpavati said: “My life has been filled with pain and distress since my marriage. From the beginning, my husband’s family demanded dowry. My husband frequently stayed away from me, and when I expressed my desire to have children, he postponed it indefinitely. When I gently urged him to undergo medical tests, he reacted with anger and shouted at me. My in-laws were verbally abusive and, at times, physically violent. I felt isolated, humiliated, and trapped in a situation where my dignity and well-being were constantly undermined.”

She even demanded her body burial in husband’s house. The case was registered at Doddaballapur Women station, where Venu and his father were detained.
