Puja, also known as Sejal, a 21-year-old girl from Odisha who was adopted by an American couple in 2018, has released a video.
She claims she is being tortured and forced to convert to Christianity by her foster mother in the United States. She says her visa expired in 2023, leaving her unsafe and without legal protection.
Puja said she was made to do household chores, faced two murder attempts, and that she earned ₹10 lakh during the holidays was taken away by her foster mother, making it impossible for her to return to India on her own.
She has appealed to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Odisha officials have contacted SARA, CARA, and the Ministry of External Affairs for help.
The names of the foster parents have been withheld.
