In a harrowing case of familial violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, 22-year-old Naina Devi was allegedly stabbed to death by her brother, Sher Singh, 19 in their family home in Itora Gotiya village.
The incident stemmed from a heated confrontation over Naina’s phone conversations with male friends and her refusal to arrange marriage offers. Sher Singh, further enraged after discovering call recordings, confronted his sister when she reached for her device, delivering a fatal blow to her neck with a sharp weapon. Naina succumbed to her injuries soon after, leaving her family devastated.
The murder draws attention to the perilous intersection of patriarchal control and modern technology in rural India, where women’s autonomy remains a flashpoint for “honor”-driven violence. Police confirmed Sher Singh’s arrest and booking under murder charges.
