A 21-year-old woman was shot and injured by her former lover, Akash Kashyap, after he barged into her rented home in Lucknow early on Thursday, December 12, 2025, around 2 am.
The woman had met Kashyap, a resident of Sarojini Nagar, about a year ago at an orchestra event. They entered a relationship, but she distanced herself upon learning of his alleged substance abuse and criminal background. Despite being blocked, he continued harassing her with calls from different numbers.
On the night of the incident, Kashyap arrived drunk with 4-5 others, damaged the outside CCTV camera, and entered the house alone. He assaulted the woman, abused her, and vandalised items. When the family objected, he fired twice from a country-made pistol, hitting her shoulder and hand.
He then attempted to shoot her seven-year-old niece, but the child escaped unhurt. Kashyap locked the injured woman in a room from outside and fled in a Scorpio vehicle.
Neighbours heard screams and gunshots, rushed in, and took her to hospital for treatment. Police registered an FIR against Kashyap and launched a manhunt with raids at possible hideouts.
