In Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, an on-duty woman police constable was assaulted and had her uniform partially torn during a violent anti-coal mining protest in Tamnar block on December 27, 2025. A video of the incident, filmed by protesters and surfaced on social media, shows her on the ground pleading for mercy while attackers questioned her presence and hurled abuses.
The protest by residents of 14 villages opposed the Gare Palma Sector-I coal block allotted to Jindal Power Limited, demanding cancellation of a December 8 public hearing over fears of displacement and environmental damage. Clashes led to injuries among police, including station house officer Kamla Pusam, and arson of vehicles.
Raigarh police arrested two local men for the assault on the constable, with efforts ongoing to identify others using video evidence. The district administration later initiated cancellation of the public hearing process following the violence.
