A 25-year-old call centre employee from Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, was found dead under a parked car in Greater Noida’s Beta 2 sector on Monday morning, January 13, 2026, barely 50 metres from her home.
Police identified the accused as 28-year-old Ankit Kumar, a married fruit-seller operating a shop near her residence. He had been stalking and harassing her for nearly a year after a brief conversation, pressuring her for a relationship. When she refused, he strangled her between two parked cars on Tuesday night (January 12), then dragged her body under a car to stage an accident.
The body showed ligature marks on the neck and disarranged clothing below the waist. Her family alleged possible rape, but police noted the disarray could be from dragging; they are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm sexual assault.
Ankit was arrested late Tuesday after a brief gunfight near Dhakiya Wale Baba roundabout in Surajpur. CCTV footage from the area helped track him. A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Beta 2 police station.
The woman worked at a call centre in Noida sector 52. Her body was cremated on Tuesday after a panel post-mortem.
