An 18-year-old Class 12 student slapped his female teacher during an examination at a school in Shehra, Panchmahal district, on January 24. The teacher, who was invigilating, had asked the student why he had arrived late. The student reportedly took offense, said that no one at home questions him, and slapped her. She stumbled backward and hit the smart board behind her. The incident was captured on CCTV.
The teacher informed the principal, and the student’s father was called to the school, where he apologised. A few days later, the student, his father, and 15–20 others allegedly went to the school and threatened the teacher with consequences if she filed a complaint.
The teacher lodged a police complaint on February 4. Police arrested the student on February 6 on charges of assault and criminal intimidation. An apology video of the student later surfaced.
