In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, 25yo Jaan Alam ended his 21yo sister Roop Jahan in Matawali Patti village. The suspected honour killing occurred late Thursday night, reportedly triggered by the family’s disapproval of Roop Jahan’s relationship with a man from a different community. The accused himself called the police emergency line (112), confessed to the crime, and was arrested on the spot, with a murder case now registered and investigation ongoing.
There is open support from the victim’s father, Nausher, who defended his son’s actions. He described Roop Jahan’s conduct as “unbecoming,” claiming she had insulted the family by pursuing the relationship and planning to marry outside their community, leading to villagers mocking him. Nausher reportedly stated it was “correct to k*ll the girl who insulted us,” attributing it to a “fit of rage”.
