New Delhi: Three women from Arunachal Pradesh were subjected to racial abuse in Malviya Nagar after a minor disagreement over dust from an air-conditioner installation escalated into a heated confrontation.
The incident occurred at the women’s rented accommodation, where a neighbour objected to dust falling during drilling work. What began as an argument soon turned into verbal harassment, with the women alleging they were targeted with racist slurs and derogatory remarks about their identity.
A video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, shows the accused allegedly making offensive comments while a police officer attempts to intervene. Based on the women’s complaint, police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS related to racial abuse and intimidation. The victims have demanded strict action, saying such incidents highlight the continuing discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in metropolitan cities like Delhi.
