Need a Toilet? Have a Chicken Burger Instead

The lack of accessible washrooms acts as a “urinary leash,” forcing women to limit their time in public and often resort to dangerous “dehydration strategies.” This spatial constraint dictates personal freedom, often pushing women to reject field-heavy jobs or distant educational institutions in favor of locations with guaranteed facilities.

The controversy regarding a ladies’ toilet being converted into a canteen in Mumbai’s Fort area, near Fashion Street, has recently seen a direct response and enforcement action from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

BMC officials shut down the eatery operating from the rear of the “Pink Toilet”. Civic officials seized kitchen equipment and raw materials from the site. The BMC confirmed that the café was operating without the necessary licenses or formal approvals.
