Odisha Government Introduces One-Day Menstrual Leave For Women Across All Professions

Odisha Pioneers Menstrual Leave Policy for All Women Employees

In a progressive move, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced a one-day menstrual leave policy for women across all job sectors. This policy, which allows women to take leave on the first or second day of their menstrual cycle, was unveiled during a district-level Independence Day celebration in Cuttack, as reported by Kalinga TV. The policy is set to take immediate effect.

This announcement marks a significant step forward amid ongoing demands for a nationwide paid menstrual leave policy. The move comes just weeks after the Supreme Court urged the Centre to consider implementing such a policy after consulting relevant stakeholders. With Odisha joining Kerala and Bihar in recognizing the need for menstrual leave, the conversation around women’s health and workplace equality continues to gain momentum in India.
