A 16-year-old girl was st*bbed to d*ath by a man after she repeatedly rejected his marriage proposal in Howrah’s Andul area. The victim, a Class 10 student, was attacked while cycling home. The accused, 24-year-old Samir Das, inflicted multiple knife wounds on her neck, hand, and abdomen, causing her to collapse and bleed profusely on the road.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday when locals rushed to the scene, caught the accused, and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The girl was immediately taken to a private hospital by residents and later referred to Howrah District Hospital in critical condition, where she was placed in the ICU. She succumbed to her injuries late that night due to excessive blood loss.
Samir Das, originally from Murshidabad and employed at a factory in Domjur, was detained after initial medical treatment. Police investigations revealed that his repeated proposals had been rejected by the girl, leading to resentment that motivated the attack. The case has been registered as murder, the accused has been arrested, and further investigations are underway to probe all underlying motivations.
