A man tried to kidnap a Class 4 girl in Aluva, Kerala, on the evening of August 11. The accused, 26-year-old Kishore, approached the child after she alighted from her school bus. Frightened, the girl ran to a nearby shop, where the owner, Priya, intervened and ensured her safety. Kishore claimed the girl was his friend’s sister who was in hospital. Local residents soon apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
The girl’s parents declined to lodge a formal complaint. Police arrested Kishore but later released him after registering only a petty case.
Subsequently, Binanipuram police booked him under Section 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on the basis of Priya’s statement. Kishore claimed that he was intoxicated and had got off at the wrong bus stop.
