In a swift operation, Lucknow police shot dead Deepak Verma, a 24-year-old habitual offender accused of abducting and raping a 3-year-old girl.
The crime unfolded when Verma abducted the girl, who was sleeping with her parents near Chandanagar Metro Station. CCTV footage captured him fleeing on a white scooter, leading to his identification. Verma had a history of criminal cases, including rioting and criminal intimidation. The victim was found unconscious under a metro bridge, severely injured, and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
DC Police deployed five-member police teams, and a ₹1 lakh reward was announced for Verma’s arrest. Within 20 hours, police tracked him. When confronted, Verma opened fire, prompting retaliatory firing that left him critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
