In a horrific honor killing in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, Saraswati Maliyan, a 23-year-old Gurgaon e-commerce executive, was brutally murdered by her father, Rajveer Singh, 55, and brother, Sumit Singh, 24, for choosing a live-in relationship. Saraswati, who escaped a forced marriage and built a thriving career, was strangled and her body set ablaze in a forest to hide the crime.
Living with her partner Amit, she defied her family’s disapproval. Visiting her village to reconcile, she met a tragic end. Her remains, identified by bangles, were found on June 3. Her father and brother confessed, while a third suspect, Gurdayal Singh, at large. Police have charged them with murder and evidence tampering.
