Bengaluru, once considered one of the safest cities for women, is now regularly in the news for the wrong reasons:
In a disturbing case of street harassment, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a group of intoxicated men in the SRY Layout area near Bannerghatta, Bengaluru, on Sunday around 4 PM. One of the accused, identified as John, reportedly solicited sexual favours and tried to assault her when she resisted.
The incident, captured on nearby CCTV footage, shows the woman bravely resisting the attackers. Police say the group appeared to be drunk, but medical confirmation is awaited. Though shaken, the woman did not suffer major injuries.
The woman immediately informed her gym trainer, a close friend, who rushed to the scene and assaulted the main accused in retaliation. Police have now registered a case under multiple sections of the (BNS), including assault and criminal intimidation.
John is currently under police watch while receiving treatment at a private hospital. Arrests of all involved, including the trainer for retaliation, are in process. The investigation is ongoing.
