On June 29, 2025, Ridhanya, a 27-year-old newlywed from Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, died by suicide after consuming pesticide, allegedly due to dowry harassment by her husband, Kavin Kumar, and his in-laws.
Married in April, Ridhanya faced relentless mental and physical abuse despite her family providing 300 sovereigns of gold and a Rs 70 lakh Volvo car as dowry.
She sent seven WhatsApp voice messages to her father, detailing the torture and apologizing before her death. The Avinashi police arrested Kavin, his father Eswaramoorthy, and mother Chithradevi for abetment of suicide.
