UP: Father D*owns Daughter Over Desire for a Son

In the shadow of India’s enduring son preference, a father’s unthinkable act:

In Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, a family’s world shattered when 30-year-old laborer Ashok Vishwakarma took his 18-month-old daughter, Rutbi, for what he called a morning outing on November 19, 2025.

Witnesses reported seeing the child forced in the waters of a Gomti River canal and despite urgent rescue efforts by locals and authorities—including divers and NDRF teams—Rutbi has not been found.

Vishwakarma, now in custody, faces charges of murder after his wife, Sanju, filed a complaint detailing his expressed frustration over having another daughter.
