In a horrific incident from Punjab’s Jalandhar district, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and s*rangled to death by her 48-year-old neighbor, Rimpy Singh alias Happy—the father of her best friend. The victim went missing around 6 p.m. after visiting the accused’s home to play, as captured on CCTV footage. Her body was later discovered stuffed in the neighbor’s washroom, showing signs of brutal sexual assault.
Police swiftly arrested Singh, who attempted to flee, but an enraged mob thrashed him before he was hospitalized and remanded to nine days of police custody. Authorities have invoked the POCSO Act and IPC sections for rape and murder, with forensic teams analyzing evidence.
Neighbors, who knew Singh as an ordinary local businessman, expressed disbelief at the betrayal, with the victim’s mother lamenting the loss of her “innocent” daughter who trusted him like an uncle.
