A 30-year-old lorry driver named Ashok was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Chikkaballapur Additional District and Sessions Court for raping his 65-year-old mother. The court also imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on him.
The incident occurred at their home in the district. Ashok, allegedly a chronic alcoholic with a history of abusive behavior, came home drunk one night. He dragged his sleeping mother to the backyard near a garbage dump. When she resisted and raised an alarm, he assaulted her and raped her. The victim, who was bleeding profusely, cried for help, waking her husband who rushed to rescue her.
She was immediately taken to Gudibande Government Hospital for treatment. Based on her statement, police registered a case under sections for voluntarily causing hurt, using criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe or force nudity, and rape. Officers tracked down Ashok and remanded him to judicial custody.
Ashok, the third among three children, was living with his parents after his wife deserted him shortly after marriage.
