Late on February 15, in Jhajjar district of Haryana, a young couple’s return from Valentine’s Day celebrations ended in tragedy when chartered accountant Anshul Dhawan (30) murdered his wife, 27-year-old Mahak, a bank employee with HDFC Bank in Gurugram. The couple, married on September 25, 2025, had been travelling from her parental home in Hansi back to Gurugram when the incident occurred near Pahsaur village on the Badli-Jhajjar road. Anshul initially called police around 11 pm, claiming unknown attackers had tried to rob them and slit Mahak’s throat, but inconsistencies in his story quickly aroused suspicion.
Police investigation revealed the account was fabricated — after sustained questioning, Anshul confessed to killing Mahak, who was reportedly five months pregnant at the time of her death. Investigators said the quarrel stemmed from his suspicions about her character, and during the drive he first strangled her before slitting her throat with scissors, later staging the scene to mimic a robbery.
Jhajjar Police arrested him within about 18 hours, and further forensic and digital evidence is being examined as the probe continues.
