In a late-night undercover operation in Hyderabad, Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Sumathi disguised herself as an ordinary woman and stood alone at a bus stop from 12:30 AM to 3:30 AM to check how safe the city is for women at night.
During the operation, nearly 40 men reportedly approached her within just three hours. Many were allegedly drunk or under the influence, and some made inappropriate comments without knowing they were speaking to a senior IPS officer. The exercise was conducted without visible police protection to understand the real situation women face on the streets.
After the operation, police identified the men and called them for counselling instead of immediately filing cases. The move has sparked discussion online, with many praising the officer for personally stepping onto the ground to assess women’s safety firsthand.
