JAL Allows Solid Black Sneakers for Cabin Crew and Airport Staff

A solid black sneakers are introduced by Japan Airlines as an official uniform option for cabin crew and around 14,000 airport service staff to reduce physical strain and improve comfort.

Cabin crew members across six JAL Group airlines — JAL, J-AIR, JAC, HAC, JTA, and RAC — along with approximately 14,000 airport service staff at 56 domestic and 40 overseas airports (including partner company employees) now have the option to wear solid black sneakers while on duty. Previously, staff were limited to black leather shoes, heels, or pumps. The official uniform will now include solid black sneakers as an alternative.

Long hours on foot and frequent walking are integral to the duties of cabin crew and airport staff. JAL stated that this change aims to reduce physical strain and enhance comfort, enabling staff to deliver more attentive and approachable service throughout their shifts.

This initiative follows other measures introduced earlier in 2025, such as open-collar shirts and fan-equipped safety vests for airport staff to address summer heat challenges. JAL emphasised its commitment to fostering a vibrant work environment that supports employee well-being.
