Man Thr*ws Infant into River After Argument

Rinku alias Chandraveer, a resident of Badamgarhi village in Agra, and his wife Lakshmi had been living separately for several months amid ongoing domestic discord. He was suspicions about her loyalty and questioned whether their 11-month-old daughter was his. On Friday, August 14, he took Lakshmi and the child on a motorcycle, presenting the trip as a shopping outing ahead of the girl’s first birthday on August 17.

While travelling, an argument broke out. Rinku stopped the motorcycle on Akbara Yamuna Bridge, saying he wanted a selfie with the daughter. He took the photograph near the railing and then threw the infant into the river. When Lakshmi rushed forward, he tried to push her over the edge as well. Her screams attracted passersby, who intervened, restrained him, and handed him over to police after a confrontation.

Sikandra police registered a case under Section 302 and arrested Rinku. He admitted during questioning that the act occurred in a fit of rage linked to the marital dispute. PAC divers launched a search operation in the Yamuna. As of August 17, the third day, the child had still not been found. Investigation and search efforts continue.
