Two Young Women. One Stage. Redefining Strength.

At the 2026 IPF World Sub-Junior & Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa, two Indian athletes delivered performances that challenge every stereotype about women and strength.

Keyaa Kunal Banerji, 21, competed in the Junior Women’s 47 kg category at a bodyweight of just 45.70 kg. She totalled 280 kg — 90 kg squat, 50 kg bench, and a sensational 140 kg deadlift. That deadlift, more than three times her body weight, earned her silver and exploded across social media. Yet the viral moment rested on years of steady progression: from a 257.5 kg total in 2025 nationals to 287.5 kg in 2026.

Seventeen-year-old Madhura Kar from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, competed in the Sub-Junior Women’s 52 kg category. Weighing 49.35 kg, she lifted 107.5 kg squat, 60 kg bench, and 125 kg deadlift for a 292.5 kg total — sweeping gold in all four events. A Class 12 student and back-to-back national champion (2024 and 2025), she had already taken Asian silver earlier in 2026.

One went viral for a single extraordinary lift. The other quietly claimed four golds with far less attention. Both prove the same truth: women’s strength is built on discipline, precision, and resilience — not appearance or applause.
