ACP’s Promotion Put on Hold Amid H*rassment Charges

On 3 October, during a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the Election Commission, three women journalists accused Delhi Police officers of s*xual harassment. One of them claimed that ACP Vivek Bhagat h*rassed her while she was covering the protest. Their complaints were later forwarded to the Crime Branch for a fair inquiry.

Around the same time, a fake AI-generated video and images began circulating online. These falsely showed ACP Bhagat misbehaving with a woman and were presented as genuine CCTV footage. Delhi Police traced the material to 24-year-old Nadeem Ahmed Ameen from Haryana, who had created and shared it through his Instagram news handle. He has been arrested and is currently in custody for further questioning.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government had assigned ACP Bhagat the temporary additional charge of Deputy Commissioner of Police along with 11 other officers. However, after the allegations surfaced, Bhagat himself requested not to take up the charge until the inquiry is completed. The government accepted his request and modified the order, withholding the additional DCP charge for him.
