A 17-year-old Class 11 student was SAed and m*rdered in Gaighata, West Bengal. The girl had gone to attend a musical programme near her home on Saturday night, October 24. According to her family, she left the venue after receiving a phone call and did not return home. Her family members searched for her throughout the night, and her body was found near a neighbour’s house on Sunday morning.
Police arrested 23-year-old Prahlad Das, who was known to the victim, following a complaint by her family. Preliminary findings raised suspicion of SA and m*rder, and a post-mortem examination was ordered. A Special Investigation Team was formed to investigate the case.
On the night of October 26–27, police took the accused to the crime scene for reconstruction. According to the police, he snatched an officer’s service revolver and opened fire, prompting retaliatory firing. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared d*ad. The circumstances surrounding the encounter are also expected to be examined.
