A 6yo girl with special needs was seriously injured after she was att*cked by an 8yo, Class 3 student at a government school in Sector 20, Panchkula, Haryana, on October 28. The boy att*cked her inside the school premises, leaving her unconscious with multiple facial injuries. She was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where she is undergoing treatment. Police are questioning the school authorities as part of the investigation.
The Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights took suo motu cognisance of the incident and sought CCTV footage, teachers’ duty rosters and attendance records from the school to examine possible lapses in supervision. The state government also formed a committee to investigate the incident. Police said the boy is undergoing a medical assessment, as children between 7 and 12 years involved in such cases are assessed to determine their understanding of the incident. Further action will be taken based on the assessment report.
