A 45-year-old man opened fire at a mother-and-child shelter in Stade, northern Germany, k*lling six staff members in a suspected custody dispute.
According to police, the man had an appointment at the shelter earlier that day. He later returned and started shooting. Four women and two men, all employees of the shelter, were k*lled. Five died at the scene, while the sixth later died in hospital.
Police said the attack was linked to a dispute over the suspect’s three-month-old daughter. The child’s mother had been staying at the shelter for protection. Both the mother and the baby escaped without injuries.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting. Authorities are investigating the motive, but initial findings point to a custody-related conflict.
