The horrific incident took place in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. The girl’s body was found stuffed in a sack and dumped in a pond. According to the police, the crime was pre-planned. Mondal had lured the minor to a secluded spot where co-accused Ananda Sardar and Dibakar Sardar were present. The post-mortem report revealed water in her lungs, suggesting she was alive when thrown into the pond.
Pravash Mondal, the main accused in the sexual assault and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, was killed in a police encounter.Mondal was taken to the crime scene for reconstruction around midnight when he allegedly tried to snatch a policeman’s firearm and escape. Police opened fire in response, resulting in his death.
He was the first to be arrested after CCTV footage showed him with the victim. His interrogation led to the arrest of the other accused. A fourth person, Kabir Mollah, was later arrested from Basirhat.
The case triggered massive public outrage and violent protests in the area. Locals damaged public property and an innocent man, Indrajit Mondal, was lynched by a mob on suspicion of involvement. Police have arrested at least 20 people in connection with the violence.Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met the families of both the victim and the lynching victim, assuring strict action. He has directed police to maintain strict vigilance against crimes against women and ordered a detailed report within 72 hours.
