A 28-year-old postgraduate medical student, Dr Priyanka, d*ed in Hyderabad after she was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
An SUV driven by two man under the influence of alcohol rammed her scooter from behind near a mall and ran over her, causing severe injuries. She was first treated in Rajahmundry and later shifted to Hyderabad, where doctors declared her brain d*ad.
The two accused, Suravarapu Dushyanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards, had been turned out of the mall because they were drunk. After an altercation with security staff, they fled the scene following the accident.
Police arrested them based on CCTV footage and witness accounts. They were first charged with causing grievous hurt by a rash act and later an additional charge of attempt to commit culpable homicide was added.
